Vassilios Dimakopoulos

Short bio

Vassilios V. Dimakopoulos is a Professor of Parallel Processing in the Department of Computer Science & Engineering, University of Ioannina, Greece. He holds a Diploma in Computer Engineering and Informatics, University of Patras, Greece and MSc and PhD degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Victoria, Canada. His research activities are in the areas of HPC, parallel and distributed systems, embedded systems, parallel programming, systems and scientific software. He leads the Parallel Processing research group which, among other projects, develops and maintains an open-source high-performance OpenMP compiler, targeting a variety of multi-processor and embedded systems. He has received National and European research funding, as well as equipment donations from Intel, NVIDIA and Adapteva. He has more than 65 peer-reviewed publications, including a textbook on Parallel Systems and Programming. He was formerly Deputy Chairman and Director of Graduate Studies in the Department of Computer Science & Engineering and served as the Dean of the School of Engineering, University of  Ioannina, from 2017 to 2024.
